Malaysian Schools are scheduled to reopen on 20 January amid the upsurge of Covid-19 which shows no signs of abating. Yesterday, we recorded 2,433 Covid-19 positive cases, another alarming digits in the New Year .
With this scenario, the big question now is, should our schools be reopened as scheduled or remain closed until the end of the month for the safety of thousands of school children, including the new kindergarten and standard one students?
In Malaysia, the first day of school opening is like a fest. Thousands of students and parents will jam-pack the schools which will lead to a bigger exposure to the Virus which now exist in our community. This will worsen the situation and spike the current digits.
In my opinion, all schools in Malaysia should remain closed until the end of the month. Hopefully, with the drastic measures taken by the Government soon, by February the current digits will be brought down to a safe level.
The Government should also consider the floods situation in some states.
But, Schools should only be reopened as scheduled to those who are sitting for SPM, STAM and STPM in the coming months. I believe they are big and mature enough to look after themselves and be aware of the required SOP.
After all, they are already behind schedule!
They need to sit for the important Exams as scheduled so as not to affect their tertiary educations and future job opportunities.
