The Nothing2Hide Dialogue Session was an event by invitation only. Many NGOs and activists were invited but Tun M was not in the invitation list. Since he is very critical of DS Najib's policies, especially on 1MDB, and has tons of things on his mind to release, he forced himself to come.
His unexpected presence at around 9 am received an overwhelming welcome by his supporters and few NGOs. Knowing that he was not invited, his supporters ushered him in. Later, scuffle and commotion broke out outside the Dewan.
The Dewan door management and security was weak and unprepared, and the crowd outside the Hall was unruly and out of control. This proved that the main organisers, SukaGuam was ill-prepared for the unexpected developments and had many shortcomings.
Sensing that somethings were not right, especially on the safety and security of DS Najib and Tun M, the Police decided to call off the event. It was known that DS Najib was already on his way to PWTC when he was advised by the Police to reschedule the much awaited Dialogue.
After knowing that the Police has cancelled the event, Tun M took to the rostrum to address the crowd. The crowd cheered him on. While addressing the crowd for about 5 minutes, the Police rushed to the rostrum and advised Tun M to stop. They off the system and took away the mike.
Who are to be blamed for the event failures? The organisers, the Police, DS Najib, Tun M or the crowd?
First and foremost, the organisers, SukaGuam should be well-prepared for such major event. The Dialogue Session was supposed to be the first town hall styled dialogue involving PM. Hence, they should be ever ready to expect any unexpected development and be firm with their invited guests.
Secondly, the Dewan door management and security should be strict, screen all the guests and allow in only the invited guests. They should seek the assistance of Police, especially on security screening for any weapons and sharp objects since we have many VIP guests and the main speaker is PM himself.
Thirdly, the crowd should give their cooperation and behave themselves, and do not cause any outdoor or indoor commotion.
Fourthly, the event moderator must be able to control the questioners and the crowd so that the Dialogue can be held in a smooth, peaceful, calm, conducive and fruitful manner.
In my opinion, the Dialogue should not be held at all in the first instance. PM should just concentrate on his political and administrative daily duties to bring development to the rakyat. Just leave the 1MDB issues to the entrusted Auditor General Department and PAC. These two bodies have been assigned to do the accounting and findings, and they have yet to provide the results. PM should not jump the gun by explaining and clarifying the issues beforehand. Once the accounting and findings are concluded, only then PM and those related to it should be answerable.
We know about the 1MDB issues only through the mainstream media, portal news, social media, bloggers etc. And these people just highlighted the issues off head without seeing or touching the 1MDB documents, reports and balance sheets themselves. In other words they did not have the proof. They just reported the issues through wild allegations, hearsay and rumours. Maybe Tun M is the only person who knows a lot about it. But, it is still questionable. To be fair to all, just be patient and please wait for the thorough findings and comprehensive reports of The Auditor General Department and the bipartisan PAC.
The fate of PM and those responsible should only be decided once the findings and comprehensive reports are made public. In the meantime, we should just stick to the rules of law that says 'The person is presumed innocent until proven guilty'. I rest my case. .
